Jews have always been our own worst enemy. We forget who we are and try to turn Judaism into something that will fit the fad of the moment. This:
"In modern terms, Rav Hirsch exuded the message: Be proud, not ashamed, of who you are, a people that prizes kindness, that shares a reverence for honesty and meticulousness, that implements the traditions of their forefathers with loyalty, that follows the word of G-d regardless of world opinion- a people, am seridei charev,ยนโด that after repeated banishments and incidents of mass murder carries our holy books close to the bosom, a people that, am medushnei oneg,ยนโต maximize the potential of the material world when history allows us the opportunity.ยนโถ"
Rivkah, I have his Chumash, and his โThe Prophetsโ (10?) not including Isaiah and Jeremiah. I study one or both on Shabbos, since Iโm not near a Synagogue where women can hear anything. Iโm disappointed because the first word of the Shemah is โListenโ. And if Iโm not allowed to listen, how can I hear?!
Thank you. This reminder of who we are, and of where our focus should be, diverts me back toward the straight and narrow, at least for now. What a blessing.
